Message from the President (Horseshoes and Rodeo)
Hi all. I trust everyone is having a good season! Very pleased to see the numbers participating in the local tournaments. Just keep in mind that we are on a membership drive to insure our funding continues. We had a great time in Saskatchewan at the Western Classic! Alberta was well represented with many of our members taking top prizes.
Anyway I would like to take this opportunity to commend Steve Moody and the Wetaskiwin Club for the work they are doing to promote the sport of Horseshoe Pitching. The idea is to hold tournaments with other events such as rodeos or county fairs etc. Tournaments can be fun unsanctioned events such as Myrna is working on out of Innisfail. These can be held on weekends when there are no scheduled tournaments. Who knows, we may end up with some new tournament and clubs… (See email from Steve below *)
So I challenge the rest of the clubs to get on board with this and see what you can come up with. And I trust Steve will keep us updated on the progress.
May your shoes fly true,
Bruce Grandel
President
AHPA
* Hi Bruce! Just a note to let you know that our club is moving forward with efforts to hopefully have our tournament on the same grounds as our local Rawhide rodeo at the same time as the rodeo.I have had two preliminary talks with them and am preparing a letter of proposal to give them before the end of this month.I expect the proposal to be on there monthly meeting agenda in Aug. which I intend to be at,however I don’t expect a final answer until Sept. possibly Oct. Any questions and or suggestions from yourself or other A.H.P.A. executive is more than welcome.
Our club views this effort as a means of attracting members to our Assoc. and promotion for our sport as well as our local tournament and can use constructive ideas from our general membership also which could help us get the biggest bang for our buck. Hopefully it will be just the start of exposing our sport to the public eye thereby attracting interest and members.
Hope all is well with you.
Steve Moody
